Mike Leveille (Attack) Syracuse University

Classroom:Leveille is an accounting major in the Martin J. Whitman School of Mangement at Syracuse. He owns a 3.8 cumulative GPA and will earn his bachelor’s degree in May of 2008. Leveille was selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team (min. 3.2 GPA) following his sophomore and junior seasons. He has been a member of the SU Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (min. 3.0 GPA) every semester and has been named to the Whitman School’s Dean’s List seven times.

Character:Leveille is a two-time team captain. In that role, he helps to organize team community service projects and other team events. He is a player his teammates can look to for advice and assistance on and off the field. During his career, he has shown a mental toughness and dedication to the sport by rehabbing from two different injuries. He overcame a sports hernia in the fall of 2006 to lead the Orange in scoring last season. This fall he successfully rehabbed a broken thumb to get back on the field this spring. After a trying 1-4 start for the team in 2006, his leadership and performance helped turn around the Orange’s fortunes as the team reeled off nine consecutive wins to advance to the national semifinals. Leveille helped rally his teammates in a players only meeting follwing the Hobart game.

Community:Leveille participates in a variety of community service projects each year. During the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday in 2008, he volunteered for two hours in the kitchen of the Syracuse Meals on Wheels program. Leveille helped pack coolers with prepared dinners that were then delivered to underprivileged members of the Syracuse community. He also volunteered at a youth lacrosse clinic at Liverpool High School in the fall of 2007 to benefit the area’s youth lacrosse association. The clinic focused on fundamentals like field communication and stick skills. Following the clinic, he signed autographs for the participants and answered questions. Last spring, Leveille made an appearance at Morgan Road Elementary School to answer questions and help third-grade students string lacrosse sticks as part of unit on Native American history. He also helped organize a lacrosse equipment and canned food drive that benefitted the Syracuse Boys and Girls Club and the Food Bank of Central New York. In addition, Leveille has assisted with Empire State Games tryouts near his home in Delamar, N.Y. organizing drills and evaluating players.

Competition:Leveille has started all 41 games of his college career thus far and enters the 2008 season as part of SU’s starting attack for the fourth season in a row. He has 83 goals and 49 assists for total of 132 career points. Leveille owns the second-longest active scoring streak in Division I lacrosse (39 games) and he is a 2008 preseason second-team All-American. Leveille earned USILA Honorable Mention All-America honors after his sophomore and junior seasons. He scored a career-best 52 points (31 goals, 21 assists) as a sophomore to help lead the Orange to the NCAA Final Four. He followed up that campaign by leading SU in points (39) and assists (17) last year. Leveille also tied for the squad lead with 22 goals. Against Albany in 2007, he tallied a personal-best seven points on a career-best five goals and two assists to lead the Orange to an upset of the second-ranked Great Danes.
