Classroom:Daniel is the true embodiment of an Ivy League student-athlete who works hard to achieve success both on and off the field. He will graduate from Cornell with a bachelor of arts in government and holds a cumulative grade point average of 3.24, including a 3.32 GPA in his major. He has accepted a job with Citigroup in Global Capital Markets.
Character:Daniel has shown great character, work ethic and leadership during his four years at Cornell. Shortly after the start of his junior season, Daniel was asked to switch positions to fill a hole on the team’s defensive midfield. Despite having enjoyed success as a close defender, Daniel selflessly made the change to a short-stick and didn’t miss a beat, seeing substantial playing time in all 16 games and earning four starts. This year, as the leader of the defense, Daniel has been named one of the team captains.
For the past year Daniel has owned and operated Camp Cuamba in Highland Park, Ill. An eight week summer sports camp for boys, ages seven to nine. The camp was established 59 years ago and has the tradition that a college student, who has worked as a counselor and was a camper, has the opportunity to buy, own, and run camp. He purchased the camp in September 2006 and since that time he has; hired and managed a staff of four counselors and one bus driver, negotiated contracts and pricing with service providers, and coordinated the Camp’s daily logistics and schedule.
Competition:A preseason All-American honorable mention selection, Daniel is an integral part of a Big Red defense that finished last season ranked fifth in the nation. He has seen action in every game since the start of his sophomore season and this year he will be relied upon to lock down opposing teams’ top offensive threats.
He is the first-ever student from Highland Park HS to play Division I lacrosse.
